One of my favourite gins at the moment is Tanqueray No Ten. This gin from the Tanqueray stable and produced since 2000 is truly a cut above….
In a sleek long bottle (looking much better in a full litre size!) this gin is handcrafted in small batches. It is produced in still No. 10 and is infused from the whole fruit of grapefruit, orange and lime rather than just the peel. It is distilled four times, removing the maximum amount of impurities, which ensures a really citrusy flavour with mellow strains of juniper and camomile. It is strong (47.3%) but incredibly smooth and goes down a treat.
Tanqueray No Ten has won lots of awards but its major claim to fame is that it is the only spirit to have been voted Best White Spirit at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition for three consecutive years.
I have drunk this gin in great Martinis, and with tonic and a squeeze of lime, but undoubtably I prefer it in a long glass, lots of ice, half a slice of fresh ruby grapefruit and a splash of Fever Tree tonic – fabulous.
Tanqueray No Ten costs around £30 for 70cls and between £8-10 a double shot in bars. For more information please go to www.tanqueray.com
